機車車輛研究所創(chuàng)建于1955年1月，是中國鐵道科學(xué)研究院下屬企業(yè)之一，主要解決鐵路機車車輛和電氣化鐵道供電系統(tǒng)在研究、開發(fā)、設(shè)計、生產(chǎn)、檢修、運用工作中的重大、綜合、關(guān)鍵性技術(shù)問題;并承擔鐵道行業(yè)和城市軌道上線機車車輛整車及零部件的鑒定、性能試驗和產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量監(jiān)督檢驗工作。
建所以來，憑借豐富的行業(yè)經(jīng)驗、嚴格的質(zhì)量保證、完善的營銷和技術(shù)服務(wù)網(wǎng)絡(luò)，機車車輛研究所重點發(fā)展制動、牽引、減振、安全、試驗技術(shù)并形成產(chǎn)業(yè)化，同時積極開展高速鐵路及城軌交通的機車車輛、制動技術(shù)、牽引技術(shù)、列車網(wǎng)絡(luò)控制技術(shù)等方面的開發(fā)、研究和試制工作，并在高速動車組、大功率機車項目中負責制動系統(tǒng)、牽引系統(tǒng)的引進、消化、吸收、再創(chuàng)新工作。
機車車輛研究所依靠雄厚的研發(fā)實力，取得了豐厚的技術(shù)成果，尤其自1980年以來，共榮獲國家發(fā)明和科技進步獎34項、部級獎100項、院級獎92項。
為持續(xù)穩(wěn)定地提高產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量，機車車輛研究所于2001年通過了ISO9001-94質(zhì)量保證體系認證，2003年轉(zhuǎn)版為ISO9001-2000。2011年獲得IRIS認證。 2002年4月機車車輛檢驗站作為鐵道部產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量監(jiān)督檢驗中心質(zhì)檢系統(tǒng)的一員通過CNACL實驗室認可， 2004年7月6日獲得CNAL轉(zhuǎn)版證書。2011年1月通過IRIS體系認證。

The Locomotive and Car Research Institute was established in January 1955 and is one of the many research institutes under China Academy of Railway Sciences. LCRI mainly aims to resolve the major, comprehensive and key technical problems in the research、development、design、production、inspection & maintenance and application of railway locomotives, cars and power supply system for electrified railways; carry out the evaluation, performance test and product quality supervision and inspection of entire trains including locomotives, cars, parts and components for railways and urban rail transit.
Based on its rich experience in the industry, strict quality assurance, well-formed marketing and technical service network, LCRI has been focused on the development of braking, traction, shock absorption, safety and test technologies and has industrialized these items since the establishment of the institute, and at the same time, has taken an active part in developing, researching and trial producing products of locomotives and cars, braking, propulsion and train network control systems for high-speed railways and urban rail transit, and has been in charge of the introduction, digestion, assimilation and renovation of the braking system and propulsion system for high-speed EMU and heavy power locomotives.
By relying on its powerful resources of R&D, LCRI has scored an abundance of technical achievements. Especially since 1980, LCRI has been awarded 34 prizes from the State, 100 prizes from the Ministry of Railways and 92 prizes from the CARS for invention and advanced science and technology.
In order to improve its product quality continuously and stably, LCRI passed the tests for certification of ISO9001-94 QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEM in 2001, which was converted into ISO9001-2000 in 2003. In April 2002, the Locomotive and car inspection station, as a member of the quality inspection system of the Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of the Ministry of Railways, was certified by CNACL laboratory, and acquired a certificate for CNAL edition conversion on July 6, 2004.
In the spirit of the enterprise of “innovation, diligence, strictness and harmony” and by persisting in the business philosophy of “creating quality brands products, taking quality as the core, the market as orientation, science and technology as the lead, managing scientifically, pursuing the perfection of service quality and basing business on industrialization”, LCRI will implement more profoundly the policy of “putting serving the industry first and transforming research findings into products” to make CARS prosperous, open up new frontiers for development and establish a brand new image of the enterprise.
